FEZANA is pleased to announce a new Co-Chair for its Performing and Creative Arts Scholarship Committee: Zamyad Meherji. FEZANA extends a warm welcome to Zamyad and looks forward to his contributions to the committee.
Zamyad Meherji is proud of having grown up in the tiny but a close-knit Parsee community in Kolkata, India. Throughout his childhood he had plenty of exposure and opportunities to play sports, attend religious classes, compete in elocution contests, learn Western as well as Indian Classical Music, and was an active member of the Parsee Boy Scouts movement. All these were instrumental in his overall development, in building his confidence, and in learning a competitive mindset, camaraderie, and practical skills.
Zamyad completed his undergraduate degree in Bachelors of Commerce from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, India. During his studies, he captained the varsity soccer team for two out of three years. After his graduation he worked for two years at a soccer players’ representation/agency firm. In August 2014, he moved to Toronto, Canada for postgraduate studies. He currently is an Media Account Manager at a worldwide media firm in Toronto.
Zamyad’s father Cyrus Meherji has written books on Parsi culture and Persian history. During his boyhood, Zamyad was taught the Khordeh Avesta prayers as well as stories on Cyrus the Great, The Shahnameh and Parsi customs.
He serves as the Chair on the Zoroastrian Society of Ontario’s (ZSO) – Sport & Youth Committee, the Co-Chair of Zoroastrian Youth of North America (ZYNA), and the board for FEZANA Scholarship – Performing and Creative Arts. Zamyad participated in the Z Games held in Chicago, 2016 & Los Angeles 2018. He has won a combined 7 medals in Track and Table Tennis across two editions. He was the only participant from Canada at the Z Unity Cup, Los Angeles 2017, and his team finished third (representing San Diego).
He believes that his indefatigable attitude helps him in achieving his targets. He envisions to reach maximum North American Zoroastrian Youths – in order to connect, grow, and build a bright future for themselves, as well as, the future generations to come.
