Join Parsi authors Thrity Umrigar and Nawaz Merchant as we celebrate and discuss their latest novels. Both of their books will be sure to bring up nostalgia and questions for us to find a deeper meaning and connection to their stories.
The event is a collaboration with FIRES and is hosted by Aban Rustomji, Co-Chair of FIRES (FEZANA Information Research and Education System)
Born in Mumbai India, Thrity Umrigar is a best-selling author of eight novels, a memoir, and three children’s books. Thrity will be talking about her new book, Sugar in Milk, a timely and timeless picture book about immigration, refugees, acceptance, and tolerance. The folktale depicted in this book was a part of Thrity’s Zoroastrian upbringing as a Parsi child in India, but resonates for children of all backgrounds, especially those coming to a new homeland.
Born in Mumbai India, Nawaz is a writer of mystery and historical fiction. Avidly writing short stories and poems since the age of eleven, Nawaz is published in Writer’s Digest, the Mystery Tribune, Parsiana and FEZANA Journal. Nawaz Merchant’s book, Murder in Old Bombay, is based on a true story and set against the vibrant backdrop of colonial India. An immigrant herself, Nawaz writes about diverse characters and life-changing choices. Her books combine the excitement of mystery and adventure novels with emotional journeys.
