UNITED NATIONS EXHIBIT FOR THE HOSPITAL FOR THE REHABILITATION OF DISABLED CHILDREN (HRDC) IS DISPLAYED IN CHICAGO
Shared by the FEZANA United Nations-NGO Committee, an exhibit showcasing the tremendous humanitarian work at the Hospital for the Rehabilitation of Disabled Children (HRDC) based out of Banepa, Nepal, was displayed at the Zoroastrian Association of Chicago Center (ZAC-CHI) on November 17, 2019 as part of ZAC-CHI’s First Annual Youth Project Fair. The HRDC provides medical services to the poorest, disabled children in Nepal. At the HRDC, children arrive, some after travelling great distances, and are given a bed, a diagnosis, medical treatment and rehabilitation plans, and for some, the first chance at formal education in the HRDC’s school which is housed on the hospital campus.
The colorful exhibit, draped by Nepalese prayer flags and oversized photos of HRDC patients, was originally designed (and paid for) by Friends of HRDC c/o PartnersAsia of Oakland, California, and was displayed at the 68th United Nations Civil Society Conference in Salt Lake City from August 26 to 28, 2019, which was attended by more than 4000 participants from 120 countries. In addition to the exhibit, FEZANA UN-NGO Committee collaborated with World Zoroastrian Chamber of Commerce (WZCC), RAD-AID International, and PARTNERSASIA,(www.partnersasia.org) in presenting a panel/workshop entitled, “A North South South Model of Sustainable Development” at the Salt Lake City U.N. Conference, in which the HRDC was highlighted as a case study.
At the HRDC Exhibit display in Chicago on November 17, besides learning about the great work of the HRDC, guests were also invited to make handmade pop-up heart greeting cards to uplift the spirits of the children at the HRDC. This was used as a service project to tie into the ZAC-CHI Religion Classes’ year-long focus on “Service to Others”.
