What are the Gathas?
The Gathas are hymns composed by Ashavan Zarathushtra Spitama. It is what Zarathushtra wanted to leave for his present and future companions, a thought provoking message.
The Content of the Gathas
The Gathas serve as a guide, giving us the tools to lead a good life toward Asha (in cosmic sense it is translated as order and in moral sense as righteousness and truth).
Good Mind: Yasna 28.1
It is the responsibility of each individual to search for solutions though their good mind to achieve happiness and success in life.
Freedom to Choose- Yasna 30.2
Everyone is born with a Manah (mind) which can be used in either a good or bad way or a combination of both.
Good vs Evil- Yasna 30.3
Good and Evil are mentalities, not entities. Good and bad notions and thoughts evolve in one’s mind and then translate into words and deeds.
Reward vs Consequence- Yasna 30.4
From the beginning there have been two mental phenomena (Mainyu or mentalities) that determine the two paths of life: right and wrong in thoughts, words, and deeds.
Purpose of Life-Yasna 30.9
The master question has always been: Why are we here and what is the purpose of this life?
The Results of Our Choices- Yasna 30.11
Life is a journey and throughout this path we are faced with prosperity and adversities, if done right the destination is happiness.
Ushta- Yasna 43.1
Ushta is defined as Radiant Happiness. In the Gathas those who can radiate happiness to others are praised and admired.
