FEZANA to attend the 11th Annual RAD-AID Conference

Spotlight on the Hospital for the Rehabilitation of Disabled Children

HRDC, Banepa, Nepal has been transforming the lives of over 90,000 disabled children over 35 years

October 27, 2020, Washington, D.C.  The FEZANA UN-NGO Committee is delighted to announce that it will be sending delegates to the 11th Annual RAD-AID Conference being held on Nov. 7 & 8, 2020.

FEZANA will be represented by Sheherazad Kapadia (UK), Ana Verahrami (Colorado, USA), Dr. Behram Pastakia (Washington, D.C., USA) and Dr. Bahram Jam (Toronto, Canada).

FEZANA participant, Bahram Jam who has travelled to Nepal to teach physiotherapy to caregivers, will   be part of a panel titled, “Progressive Work in Nepal” covering the Hospital and Rehabilitation Center for Disabled Children (HRDC).  To read more about the workshop click here.

An exhibit, showcasing the work of the HRDC was displayed initially at the 68th United Nations Department of Global Communications Civil Society Conference held in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 2019.  Subsequently it has been showcased at the Zarathushti children’s religion class events in New York, Chicago and Washington, D.C. at their respective Darb-e-Mehrs/cultural centres.  The exhibit is available to member associations of FEZANA who would like to use it for their local events from the FEZANA UN-NGO Committee.  The details of HRDC can be found in the 2019 FEZANA Winter Journal.

The participants representing FEZANA are:

Sheherazad (Sherri) Kapadia is currently training towards becoming an Occupational Therapist and is President of the Young Zoroastrians of the UK.  She is passionate about promoting good health within the South Asian community and is committed towards improving the dialogue on social justice within faith and belief institutions.

Ana Verahrami earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University in 2017 and is now completing her Masters in Ecology at Colorado State University with a focus in conservation biology. She is the Co-Chair of the FEZANA Zoroastrian Youth Without Borders Committee, a Zoroastrian Return to Roots Fellow, and serves as a delegate for the FEZANA UN-NGO committee.

Dr. Bahram Jam, PT is the director and founder of Advanced Physical Therapy Education Institute (APTEI) and has been an instructor to over 1000 post-graduate orthopaedic courses for Physiotherapists in Canada and internationally. He was honoured to have had the opportunity to visit HRDC in Nepal to teach and gain knowledge of the tremendous work performed at the facility.
